Why Choose the RAID Rebreather Diver?

The RAID Deco Rebreather Diver course teaches you how to safely progress from no-decompression CCR diving into planned, controlled decompression. You’ll focus on short, efficient decompression profiles using Air or Nitrox without the added complexity of Trimix.

What This Course Helps You Achieve

  • Planned Decompression: Learn to safely manage mandatory decompression stops and extend your bottom time at depth.

  • Optimal Efficiency: Train to conduct planned decompression dives with up to 10 minutes of total obligation, maximizing CCR gas efficiency and loop stability.

  • Unit-Specific Mastery: Receive precise, model-specific training on bailout planning, decompression protocols, and safe oxygen exposure management.

What You’ll Learn in the RAID CCR Deco Diver 40M Course

You’ll develop the skills, confidence, and discipline required to conduct planned decompression CCR dives to 40 metres / 130 feet. Focus areas include:

  • Loop PO₂ control and setpoint stability

  • Bailout readiness and gas switching

  • Emergency procedures

  • Decompression strategy and ascent planning

  • Unit-specific systems checks and protocols

Mastering the Core CCR Decompression Skills

Your training is overseen personally by Stuart Girdler, RAID CCR Instructor Trainer & Examiner. Stuart ensures every student meets the rigorous RAID standards while applying real-world precision.

Training flows through a structured three-stage progression:

Step 1: Online Learning

Before entering the water, you will complete all required online academic modules, quizzes, and the final exam. Topics include:

  • Decompression theory & bailout planning

  • Loop PO₂ management

  • Emergency staging procedures

  • Decompression tables & calculations

  • Gas planning & oxygen exposure limits

  • CCR unit-specific configuration & checks

Step 2: Confined Water Skills

You will complete a minimum of one confined-water session of at least 60 minutes.

A second session may be added based on diver readiness or instructor discretion.

  • Loop control and stability

  • Unit checks and pre-dive protocols

  • Buoyancy and trim on the loop

  • Emergency bailout drills

  • Valve manipulation (if applicable)

  • Stage handling (if doing Limited Trimix)

Step 3: Open Water Dives

Open-water training develops full CCR decompression competence under direct instructor supervision.

  • Minimum 6 open-water dives

  • Minimum 360 min underwater

  • At least two dives to 35m / 115ft

  • Maximum deco obligation: 10 mins

  • Maximum setpoint (loop PO₂): 1.3 bar

Train With a RAID CCR Trainer & Examiner

Your CCR training is personally delivered by Stuart Girdler, a RAID CCR Trainer & Examiner with extensive multi-unit experience.

Stuart’s teaching philosophy prioritizes unit-specific competence, bailout mastery, and real-world preparedness, ensuring you leave this course confident, capable, and ready to dive safely within the full 40M limits of your rebreather.

  • Unit-Specific Competence: Stuart ensures you master the specific configuration and protocols of your rebreather unit, which is mandatory for certification.

  • Bailout Preparedness: Training requires carrying one bailout cylinder with sufficient capacity for a safe bailout from max depth based on a conservative 50 litre / 2 cubic feet per minute SAC rate.

  • Focused Supervision: Training is conducted under direct supervision with a strict maximum ratio of 3 students per Instructor, maximizing safety and learning efficiency.

Why Train With Stuart Girdler?

  • RAID CCR Trainer & Examiner

  • Multi-unit qualified instructor

  • Focused 3:1 maximum student ratio

  • Deep technical experience

  • Passionate dive-leadership

  • Over 30 years of diving experience
